[kino] kronos

kronos quartet was here yesterday, in the
mandeville center on campus, just a 10-min
walk from sdsc(!). they played some traditional
music in the first half, and in the second half,
schnittke's quartet #3 and steve reich's triple
quartet. overall, it was a remarkable performance,
and i hadn't listened to the triple quartet before --
it's incredible.

chatted with them after the performance: they
claimed it's on their todo list to remind
gubaidulina that she had promised them another
string quartet :) -- her last one is the forth
quartet they played on 'night prayers' (~1994).
after that she switched to some grandiose projects
and forgot about kronos.

interestingly, their main guy, harrington, constantly
listens to all kinds of music. for example, on their
way to san diego, he was 'studying' einstürzende
neubauten(!).
